JEWELRY AUCTION IN VERSAILLES

As part of our Furniture and Works of Art auction on October 18, we are, as always, presenting a fine selection of jewelry, including several Art Deco-style rings.

The Art Deco Style

Emerging during the interwar period, Art Deco broke with the sinuous, floral lines of Art Nouveau. Geometry and modernity now took center stage… Squares, rectangles, triangles, and chevron patterns defined the jewelry’s structure. The motifs were clean and balanced. Houses such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Boucheron have greatly contributed to its popularity.

Both elegant and graphic, this timeless style continues to inspire designers today, who draw on its signature elements.

Rings

With symmetrical designs, center stones, and architecturally inspired settings, these rings make a bold statement without necessarily being bulky. In terms of materials, the Art Deco style is characterized by visual contrasts: white gold, sapphire, ruby, emerald, onyx, diamond… Stone cuts—such as princess, emerald, radiant, or baguette—accentuate straight lines. Diamonds are often arranged in stepped, fan-shaped, or radiating patterns.

Whether they're engagement rings or pieces of jewelry worn as a personal statement, they evoke Parisian evenings and the glamour of the Roaring Twenties.
